The region known as Patsy Pond, situated within the Croatan National Forest, stands as one of the most ecologically diverse natural areas in the state of North Carolina. Here, the plant species characteristic of the long leaf pine forest harmoniously coexist with those found along the state's coastline and barrier islands. Visitors can enjoy two distinct, clearly marked trails - one spanning 3/4 of a mile, and the other extending for 1 3/4 miles. Complimentary trail guides are provided at the trail entrance, conveniently positioned on Highway 24, directly opposite the NC Coastal Federation offices in Ocean. This location is approximately equidistant between Morehead City and Swansboro. The trails are accessible to the public throughout daylight hours.
